Unlock AT&T iPhone 4S Baseband 1.0.11, iPhone 4 Baseband 4.11.08 and 3GS Baseband 5.16.05

Looks like a security flaw in iOS 5 running on an AT&T iPhone 4S allows you to unlock it and use T-Mobile SIM card.
UPDATE: Forget about hacking your iPhone, make it officially unlocked here.

This video was made by a YouTube user “g35mik.”
Here are the steps based on the video:
- Insert original carrier AT&T SIM card.
- Dial 611 for AT&T customer service hotline and drop the call.
- Turn on Airplane Mode.
- Take out AT&T SIM card.
- Insert T-Mobile SIM card.
- Make sure WiFi is off (he also tapped on ‘Forget this Network” to make sure it doesn’t connect automatically later).
- Switch off Airplane Mode and iPhone will search for network. This is followed by the Apple splash screen appearing.
- Activation Required will be displayed on the screen.
- EDGE network will activate automatically – notice the ‘E’ on the top left corner of the screen.
- Wait for about 20-30 seconds and turn off the phone.
- Turn on iPhone and the same Activation Required screen will be displayed.
- When you see one signal bar, tap on Use Cellular Connection.
- Eject SIM card. Wait about 7 seconds, then pull out T-Mobile SIM.
- Activation Required screen will be displayed the second time. Now slide to unlock go to home screen and now put in AT&T SIM card.
- Insert SIM card. It will show the Apple logo and say “Activation Required” for the second time.
- Unlocked! Do the same thing as before, tap on Use Cellular Connection.
- This time wait 7 seconds, then quickly pull out the AT&T SIM card and put in the T-Mobile SIM card.
- Unlocked!

The last few minutes of the video was a bit confusing due to the activation steps.
He also claimed that this method will work on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4. If you’re a T-Mobile USA customer, why don’t you try this and let us know?

The boot logo is changed which means this is a jailbroken phone. Also it jumps right from loading to settings which the phone wont do so it is clearly been doctored.
Theres the vid, theres the steps… So how come no one confirmed yet if its really working or if its legit? From what i see here, you have to have the at&t sim or the original carrier for you to use the hack. Unfortunately, idevices outside US, wont be able tO use this procedure coz we cant have that 1bar of service. T_T
I have Att and tmobile Prepaid with data plan. The only thing that displays after turning Airplane mode off is a Spash screen that says Sim Failure "OK" . No bar on top left hand side and no E (edge) network, No.When the phone is turned of then on all I get is No Service.
Has no one tried this to see if it works?

I'm pretty sure that this method only works with iPhone 4s. Because when you put a different sim into the 4s it takes you to the activation required part. My friend and I got very close to getting this to work on a white iPhone 4s. Everything did exactly what the video did. However the very last step, the second time we hit "Use Cellular Connection" and took the sim out and put it back in, we couldn't get it to work. :/
Figured it out! Only for iPhone 4s
12. When you see one signal bar, tap on Use Cellular Connection.
13. Wait about 7 seconds, then pull out tmobile sim
14. Now slide to unlock go to home screen and now put in AT&T sim card.
15. It will show the apple logo and say "activation required" for the second time.
16. Do the same thing as before, tap on Use Cellular Connection.
17. This time wait 7 seconds, then quickly pull out the AT&T sim card and put in the tmobile sim card.
18. Unlocked!

I think you cant have an activated at&t sim card. Because if the att sim is already activated, it doesnt take me to the activation screen, it just goes through.
After visiting a few sites that offer to unlock & jailbreak your iphone (there are zillions – just google it) this site allows me to do it for free!!!

Is this permanent, or like Gevey will you have to do these steps over again when you restart? Also, if anyone else can comment on if it works on the 4 (not 4s) that'd be great.

1. Have att sim and dial 611(5 seconds after it connects hang up)
2. Turn airplane on
3. Eject att sim quiclky
4. Quickly insert tmobile sim and press power button(you have to press power button before NO SIM CARD INSTALLED dissappears or else you will get sim failed)
5. Slide unlock and go to setting and TURN AIRPlANE OFF now you will get signal..
Im not confirming because i tried this on unactivated tmobile sim and after all the above steps i got no service..if some one can try this with an actiivated tmobile sim and tell us please if this works thanks

With the iPhone 4 i belive it has to be deactuvated before u can attemot this hack/trick..i'm waiting till i get my hands on an At&t sim card to try these steps..will let u know what happnes when i do!

Now we know that oher than great g35mik others made it unlocked for 4s. Please speak and highlight if anyone made it for iphone 4. Im sure it can because g35mik video is very clear that it is working for the iphone 4. Long live for the hackers.
I think if you are outside the US the process won't work. I tryed it but without s6. So got to wait a little longer for it.

I got it to work on ios5 iPhone4 baseband 4.11, but couldn’t get it to work on iPhone4s. On iphone4 I put active Att sim, then turned on airplane mode, switched sim with active tmobile sim and it worked after turned off airplane mode. Reboot several times to see if it still worked and it did. I hope it works for everyone else.

Once time I try do follow the steps.
It's show "dtac" on the top left (Thai carrier) just for a few second.
But that time the SIM in iPhone 4S is ATT&T SIM.
And I did not move AT&T SIM out and put dtac SIM in slot on time.
And now I try to do the same way I did but I did not see "dtac" on the top left any more.
Do anyone have some suggestion for me?

Thai Carrier logo is appear on top left same as in the video clip.
But it's still lock. So after carrier logo is appear on top left, what I have to do next.

Please make a video or tutorial, as you are the first to making some progress outside the US.
1.Put your local SIM into slot and wait until iPhone ask to activate.
2.When signal and "E" is appear on the top left ,just wait until the screen off itself.
3.Remove local SIM out and insert AT&T SIM into slot.
4.And press home button then slide to home screen, it'll show local carrier on the top left.
BUT!!! it's still lock and I have no idea to do more thing to keep local carrier.

I'm in Thailand as well, and I use True, and I can get the 4S to display the True logo for about two seconds before it will restart the phone. Each time I get the logo to show, the phone restarts before I can do anything. Did you ever figure this out?

So all you have to do is put an active AT&T SIM in and then turn it on airplane mode and then put the t-mobile SIM in and turn off airplane mode and in theory it should start working?

A friend of mine who has AT&T will let me use his sim card to try this method..i'm also in the U.S…..i will let you know how things..but i have to wait till thursday to do it..that's when he will have free time to meet me.

here an update…i met up with my friend..ran into issues i couldn't figure out…when i inserted my friends active at&t sim card my iphone searched for service then just displayed "no service" when he put his sim back into his iphone 4 he had service right away…i tried again with his sim on my iphone 4 and same thing as before..searching..then NO SERVICE..did full restore and still the same thing..anyone have any ideas why it would say that no service even with active at&t sim?

I've try this method, it ran very well and things happen just like the video or what it said in the instruction from step 1- 13. I got problem with step 14
14. Now slide to unlock go to home screen and now put in AT&T SIM card.
I did this step the phone does searching for the signal for a while but it doesn't pop-up the Apple loge as well as doesn't appear the "Require Activate". In stead, after a bit of searching it come signal for ATT and ready to use as it normal be. Basically, I failed on step 15. Is there anything I have to do with the setting to make the Apple logo pop-up in step 14.

In order to use "Use Cellular Connection", I think, you might need to make sure you T-moblie Edge network really works first. Otherwise it cannot connect the carrier. I am not sure.

mmm…i managed to make it show TMobile by quickly taking the Tmobile SIM out and putting it back in (and I actualy see T-MOBILE there) but the phone restarts again

Also, i had hard time seeing the Activation Screen when the ATT Sim is inserted. once ATT is inserted (step 15 or so) the phone just shows ATT bar with no activation). thoughts?
when you see the T-Mobile. Is it work finally or after reboot the phone it no longer working. give us more updated. it seems like you almost have it works.
It shows TMobile with bars, then phone reboots and goes to activation screen again. The trick (to get the tmobile there) is that once you choose "CELLULAR CONNECTION" it will try to activate the phone and right when it shows your sim must be compatible, you should pull out the tmobile and put it back ( just a tiny 0.5 second after). it shows TMobile there for couple seconds and then reboots to activation screen.

I also occasionally see T-MOBILE after pulling the T-M sim card out and even after re-inserting the ATT simcard, but re-inserting T-M sim card, will only go to Activation interface again, and again..
I even wiped, reset, and restored the whole phone and re-tired. same thing: the 2nd Activation Window will not pop up after re-inserting ATT sim card.
There should be some problems of this method. Is this method only good for the new phone after purchasing even without re-boot? or any specific version ATT 4S?

when i pulled out T-Mobile sim card at the last step before insert my AT&T sim card.. i saw a quick T-Mobile logo.. but it disapper and change to AT&T once the AT&T sim card is inserted !!!

I just want to make sure, because then I will ask my uncle to borrow his SIM to try. I'm really hating looking at my unusable phone. =/
I've only seen people actually confirm the iPhone 4s. No one has actually said they've gotten the iPhone 4 yet. Apparently he is showing how on 11/11/11. The guy just needs to show this already.

Agree, that is the only hope for now. But he is also supposedly taking a vote on 5.01 to me sounds like a delay tactic. Lets hope for the best. I would say that the way he is organising his website and posting stuff, there is a fair chance.
I think this is a Scam. Because I got as so far and the t-mobile logo showed for only 4-5 seconds then the phone restarted back to activation. If you notice in the video the t-mobile logo shows for the same time then the video stops. If this were real the user would have cut the phone off and on to see if the tmobile logos shows… BTW you dont have to go through all those drawn out steps (dial 611, etc) Just stick the tmobile card in, phone restarts to activation, turn off any wireless there by cloicking the blue arrow and the forget this network. Then the edge signal would show up, click use "cellular blah blah" then click open the the sim card slot and close quickly… You will see the t-mobile logo show up 4 secs then it restart. Phony!

It appeared at a Chinese eBay style website, and its called Miracle and its made by Vold. Not made by Gevey anymore. It supposedly unlocks BB/Baseband 04.11.08 and iOS 5. This seems to be good news and a new hope for us locked on the newest baseband =)

Hi I tried to do this process on my 3GS with iOS5 and baseband 5.16.05, it never worked for me, i did this several times, it broke my T-Mobile sim but it never unlocked my 3GS, any body tried on 3GS?

even if it works, it only will work for a peroid of time until the TMSI is sent by the operator again to your SIM card then it will fail.

i have tried this, and it does not seem to be working. I have both an active AT&T Sim Card and A T-mobile Sim Card. I have gone over the directions a few time, however when I click on the video it will not play.

Ok, I have re-done the steps from the start, and after reading the step by step directions (video will not play it says it's a private video) I get the E when I put in the T-mobile SIM CARD, but once I take it out I see everything that the directions says I'll see, but once I repeat the steps, and tap/click on over cellular, and put the T-mobile sim card back in, it goes to "COULD NOT ACTIVATE iPHONE" try again, I have four times and still NOT UNLOCKED…….
just go to amazon, put in the search bar iaperio sim 4s, and buyaaah, your 4s is unlocked
it might work in states. otherwise, another country's sim doesn't access E network.
